  1. Nobody has even started it? Will all the AIG owners here, I'm sure someone has some feedback :)
  2. Now for something on the lighter side: http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-02-07/geicos-gecko-has-written-a-book#r=hp-ls Interesting branding exercise....
  3. I just opened Photoshop CS3, rotated 90 degrees CW, and cropped the top of the pic so it's more centered on our two handsome protagonists. Not sure why your program wouldn't let you rotate...
  4. For those with fragile necks :)
  5. Certainly bad news, though there isn't much detail yet. I wonder if China often opens probes like this, and how often they result in anything. In the plus column for the near future, we have Dresden which should continue to rock and be worth more than the current market cap, the euro and swiss francs moving in favorable directions, Landquart moving in the right direction thanks to the reinstated big order and smaller durasafe order (if latest news are to be believed, though that's always a big ?? and I'll believe it when I see it), Thurso finishing its ramp up (though at current DP prices, not making much), and the cogen (though late and over-budget >:( ) starting up and providing a nice stable cashflow. Nothing to go crazy over, but better than what the market is pricing in currently. Don't know if they'll decide to push back LSQ or what. At least they have the option of doing that fairly easily with the way things are structured. Now if only DP/viscose prices could recover above chinese producers' cost...
  6. http://business.financialpost.com/2013/02/07/fortress-paper-could-take-hit-from-chinas-anti-dumping-probe/ I wonder if this'll just go away if (when) DP/viscose prices go back up to a level where the chinese producers aren't losing money...
  7. That's the thing. If the alternative is doing the work yourself, then I think history has shown us that people won't do it. I think that if Moody does the minimum to show that its aware of past problems and working to improve things, they'll stick around for a long time. But I'm not expert in that field, just my best guess.
  8. Thanks for the reminder. That one is definitely on my list, but I'll bump it up!
  9. [amazonsearch]The AIG Story[/amazonsearch] Has anyone here read it yet? Thoughts?
  10. I posted it quickly because it's about Buffett and figured maybe it could lead to some interesting discussion about that holding, but I agree that the move in the stock price itself doesn't mean much. I'm sure the only thing Buffett is thinking about is whether there's a permanent change in the business' intrinsic value or not.
  11. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-02-06/buffett-s-moody-s-stake-may-have-plunged-on-s-p-lawsuit.html
  12. It wouldn't mind a big correction as long as AIG and BAC get approval to do big stock repurchases in March :)
  13. Heh, thought it was funny so googled it. Found this: http://liz.blogs.foxbusiness.com/2008/09/08/warren-buffett-to-fbn-shorting-fnmfre-like-jumping-off-a-pancake/ Guess he's still using it :)
  14. Thanks for the notes, racemize.
  15. Thanks! At first I thought it was all going to be old footage. Good to see all these old schoolers!
  16. Since the day I created this thread on Sept 22, this stock is up 24.3%. Too bad I ended up not buying any :P
  17. Thanks for sharing. Cotton seems to have bounced off the bottom too: http://www.indexmundi.com/commodities/?commodity=cotton
  18. Hey, good to hear from you! Thanks for the update, glad you are doing well. I've slowed down a bit my online activities too because there are so many of my positions that are low maintenance, I just have to wait for them to work out or not. I have a lot of FTP, EGD, BAC.WS.A, AIG.WS, etc, and all of them are multi-year investments for me. I've been adding some AIG warrants recently, but that's about it. Trying to keep my level of activity low and let time do its work. Anyway, hope you'll keep posting here, even if sporadically! Cheers.
  19. Tembec update: http://www.woodbusiness.ca/industry-news/tembec-reports-q4-loss
  20. I've just watched the first episode and thought it was so-so. Does it get better in subsequent episodes? Am I the only one finding a lot of the dialogue and acting kind of clunky? It was still enjoyable, but I'm a bit disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high.
  21. Can you be more explicit? Do you mean because he's in contact with MBIA and BAC management? Something else?
