I think the whole point is that nobody's a perfect driver, and even those who are very careful and talented have bad days (tired, bad visibility, etc). In that sea of cars, it only takes one bad driver to cause an accident. Self-driving cars have the potential to have basically instant reflexes and to have unblinking eyes all around (including ultrasound, radar, etc, seeing through fog), as well as eventually ad hoc mesh networking with nearby cars, etc. Can't help but eventually be better than even good human drivers, and even if you're good, do you trust everyone else around you to be as diligent?

I've seen other videos of the autopilot preventing near-certain accidents. here's one where a car drives across the lane and the car auto-brakes instantly from 45 MPH and avoids a crash: Can't wait until all cars on the road have similar features (including to avoid pedestrians and cyclists), at least until most cars are fully autonomous at much higher levels of safety than human drivers.

Are you looking at just the price of LMCA? Because they just split Media into three trackers, one for SIRI, one for the Braves, and the remaining in LMCA.

I enjoyed the piece too. Even someone who thinks cars are a waste and goes almost everywhere on his bike was impressed.

Irwin Michael ABC Funds moving to new strategy

I also think it's commodities + small canadian venture stuff (look at the Canadian venture index..) that killed him (from what I remember of his portfolio a few years ago), not overall market valuation. Maybe if we start seeing lots of American value investors give up, that could be a different kind of signal, but Irwin Michael seemed to be more Canada-specific. -
"Experts" ;D Anyone who drew up those designs as being a game changer really isnt paying attention to why people like Teslas. Trolling for pageviews. This says more about Motortrend and those people than about Apple. Just a bunch of guys brainstorming... Lots of Apple execs, including Jony Ive, are car people. They would never be seen in a dork box. These guys drive Porsches and Mercedes and Ferraris and Rolls Royces... (probably Teslas too).

I thought this was an interesting read, and that others here might find it worth their time. http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/i-am-on-the-us-kill-list-this-is-what-it-feels-like-to-be-hunted-by-drones-a6980141.html Found via David Simon (writer/director of The Wire, Treme, Generation Kill, The Corner, Show me a Hero, etc), on Twitter.

So the general theory on ALS seems to be that that Dalton is very shrewd and that ALS is very undervalued at the current price. So why is Dalton doing a bought deal at 11.25 CAD? Could argue that he needs the money to buy something even more undervalued, but couldn't he have given up less value by raising debt?

I wonder when the feature creep will occur... it won't be long before the debate rages on whether cars will be required to brake in school zones, to brake for red lights... to brake for the speed limit! I'm sure that will become an issue at some point, with vigorous debate on both side (who will be the next Ralph Nader?). Maybe at some point it'll go too far, but then again, sometimes people are just afraid of change but in the end, it's for the better (there was a lot of resistance to seat belts and then air bags...).

Second video that I see of a Model S autopilot avoiding a collision: http://electrek.co/2016/04/09/tesla-autopilot-avoid-collision-video/ It'll be neat when all cars on the road have autopilot-like safety features that help avoid accidents or mitigate them by braking much faster than a human could before a collision. Safer roads for all.

SpaceX finally successfully landed a rocket on a floating drone ship. Amazing. https://twitter.com/ow/status/718547064955781120 Apparently Elon tweeted this one but then deleted it (some swearing):

They needed a premium priced product so they could have better margins. At a lower price, too many people would rather save $10K and just get a Prius. They needed to go after people that are interested in BMW 5 and 7 series cars. That's what they did and it worked. Model X is based on the Model S platform. It's a way to get more out of existing investment and build more economies of scale. Wouldn't have made sense to wait until after Model 3 IMO.
